June 2009 Construction Update

Chief Sealth Construction

The Seattle Public Schools’ Denny International Middle School and Chief Sealth High School construction project has been granted a Master Use Permit to begin major construction work. This phase of the construction work, Project 2, will begin in June and will include the construction of a new middle school and the renovation of the existing Chief Sealth High School. The co-located campus will include:

  • All newly renovated classrooms for Chief Sealth
  • A new middle school designed to support middle-school best practices
  • A new galleria/commons
  • New health center
  • Energy efficient windows, lighting and air systems
  • Structures that meet new earthquake codes
  • ADA Accessibility
  • New fire and sprinkler systems
  • New separate plazas
  • Safe off-street bus loading
  • New foreign language classrooms
  • Renovated Auditorium

Chief Sealth is scheduled for completion in summer, 2010, ready for the fall school year. Denny International Middle School is scheduled to be completed by winter, 2011.

During this phase of construction, there may be heavy equipment used along the streets immediately surrounding the construction site. There is no street work planned during initial construction activities. When street work is planned, we will provide advance notice to any neighbors that might be affected by that work.

As a parent or neighbor of the school, you may be impacted by the sights and sounds of construction. Seattle Public Schools, Denny International Middle School and Chief Sealth High School thank you for your continued support and understanding during construction.

Hamilton International Middle School June 2009 Construction Update

Hamilton Construction

As of, May, 2009, structural work is complete at the historical building. The new classroom addition at the north side of the building was constructed using the same crane erection methods as were used to construct the infill at the center of the building over the last months.

This month, June, 2009 the contractor will begin erecting the steel framing for the new gymnasium, and will continue construction on the historic building exterior. Work will continue on the interior steel partitions, electrical and mechanical work. Watch for skylight installation in late June or early July as the contractor prepares to finish the roofing.

What's Happening on the Streets?

On both the Densmore and Woodlawn sides of the building, underground connections to the in-street utilities work will continue through June. Seattle Schools will continue to distribute construction notices to all affected neighbors for any scheduled street work.

Ingraham High School June 2009 Construction Update

The interior remodeling of Ingraham High School is scheduled to begin June 22, 2009 and includes:

  • Flooring replacement
  • Interior painting
  • Audio/video equipment upgrades, and
  • Some new student furniture installation

This interior remodel project is not part of the Master Use Permit regarding the new addition, which is on hold until permitting issues are resolved. The interior remodel project will be completed before students return for school this September.

Our neighbors will probably not even notice the work inside the school, except for a few of the vehicles associated with the work. We do not expect any additional noise or dust for our neighbors.

Seattle Public Schools and Ingraham High School thank you for your continued support and understanding during the renovation and remodel of the school.
