Nathan Hale High School
February Construction Update

Nathan Hale Construction

Project 1: After the December snows melted, the contractor pours the new foundation for the visual arts and library in the north courtyard, seen through the gutted structure of the old print shop building (Unit D).

Project 1 – The Library/Arts Addition

The Project 1B contractor, Absher Construction, has been working furiously since November on the new library and arts addition and renovation project. The old print shop building (Unit D) has been completely gutted and is currently undergoing seismic retrofitting. To the west and south, the contractor is excavating and installing the foundation for the new addition.

During Winter Break, some corridor ceilings were demolished in the main building so the contractor can install fire sprinkler and natural gas piping to serve the new addition. The contractor has also demolished part of the Women’s PE Locker Room and adjacent shower and bathrooms where the new addition will attach to the main building.

Project 2 - The Renovation of the Main Building

The project team is continuing design of Project 2, which is the renovation of the main building including the offices, academic core, cafeteria and commons, and athletic facilities. Design is approximately 60% complete and construction is planned to start in summer 2009. The architects have been meeting with many school user groups to discuss design of the new spaces. We have also started planning for additional portable classrooms and summer moves to prepare for the next phase of construction.
